Catamaran
- Whether for daysailing, world cruising, chartering, or fishing, boats with two hulls are becoming increasingly popular. Although the basic catamaran design is centuries old, modern updates have made them a viable option for any boater.
- Catamarans come in various sizes, including small models up to 9 meters (approximately 30 feet). These smaller catamarans are ideal for those seeking a compact yet spacious vessel. They offer excellent stability, reduced risk of capsizing, and the ability to access shallow waters due to their shallow drafts. For instance, the Catamaran, with a length of 8.5 meters, is one of the smallest liveaboard catamarans available, providing an economical and comfortable living space. The Catamaran 9M, another popular model, is known for its solid construction and family-friendly design.
- The draft (depth below the waterline) of a catamaran varies based on its size and type. Small daysailing cats can draw just a few inches, while larger cruising cats may have a draft of 3-4 feet. Some catamarans are equipped with daggerboards to enhance upwind performance. When these boards are lowered, the draft can exceed 10 feet, but they can be raised to navigate shallow waters
